Houston Zoo Announces Official Opening of Galápagos Islands

Houston Zoo Announces Official Opening of Galápagos Islands
Centennial Documentary Recounts Moments Leading to the Opening

On April 7, guests of the Houston Zoo will have the unique opportunity to be transported to the Galápagos Islands via the newest and most ambitious exhibit to date. This immersive experience will bring the archipelago’s story to life through an exploratory exhibit bringing guests even closer to sea lions, Galápagos tortoises, and Humboldt penguins. The exhibit is a crowning achievement in the Houston Zoo’s 100-year history.

In the Fall of 2022, Rolando Guajardo, Principal of Constell Media, produced and directed Zoo Ball 2022’s Centennial Documentary. Guajardo shares, “As a native Houstonian, I couldn’t be more proud to tell this story. Not only is the Houston Zoo one of our city’s most beloved institutions but it also plays a role in so many cherished childhood memories.”

The film highlights how the Houston Zoo wildlife conservation efforts have grown from the 1970s breeding programs to the expansive global programs of today. “Many people might just think of a zoo as a place to see animals but the Houston Zoo has taken that experience to another level by integrating conservation efforts made possible by just visiting the zoo,” says Guajardo.

Crew from Constell Media had the unique opportunity to preview the Galápagos exhibit in September 2022 to film a glimpse of what was to come for the documentary. “Seeing the exhibit, even in a state of construction was absolutely stunning,” comments Guajardo.
